Biografia
Pupil of Cesare Maccari in Rome, he works and lives in Capri from 1880.
He doesn’t just paint seascapes and landscapes of Capri as his travels’ memories, like Venice, Sorrento and Amalfi coasts but also oriental paintings.
He decorated Villa Pompeiana in1888 and Villa Andreae in 1901, married the former model Maria Lieto and became the owner of Villa Flora in 1903.
He was named “Coppola Rossa” because of the red hat he was used to wear, worked with Antonino Leto, and was also a brilliant watercolorist; he produced a series of watercolours during his travel to Egypt as well as beautiful oil paintings with oriental objects.
He was a very successful painter in Italy as well as in Germany, where he attended several exhibitions.
