Biografia
Fratello del pittore Woldemar Hottenroth, si forma presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brema e nel 1830, grazie ad una borsa di studio, intraprende un viaggio che lo porta a Roma. Woldemar nel 1844 rientra in Germania mentre lui rimane a Roma, continuando a frequentare la numerosa comunità di artisti tedeschi in città, arrivando anche alla progettazione del Caffè Greco di Roma.
